We had a wonderful evening at the Country Club where there is Thursday night Jazz as well as great food--the Seared AHI was outstanding..and certainly no shortage of liquor.
As a Staff Commodore (1982) of the Catalina Island Yacht Club, I always attend the Swordfish dinner that past Commodores sponsor--and we see all of our old friends.
The Club is the oldest Yacht club west of the Mississippi--founded in 1924. One of the original members was John Wayne, who used to stop by to show his grandchildren the beautiful Clubhouse and have a drink.
The water was warm and clear--could see below water level 15 feet--my friend dropped her glasses--and a kid from the boat next to ours saw them on the bottom the next day--dove down and retreived them--so much for the nesstory that Avalon has polluted water.
I love Avalon and sometimes wish I still had my boat over there--Then I hear the cost of Diesel fuel--$4.50/gallon on the Island--I used to burn 52 gallons/hour--and I think maybe it's best staying on my friends yacht. Red Allante
Sounds like you had a real good time... I love the water too. Nothing like being on a good boat... We use to moor our boat down at the Dana Marina in San Diego. One night Natille Wood came aboard for a drink with my parents. Her and Robert were a couple of slots down from us. Very nice people. As for John Wayne, I remember he had that old military boat/converted into a Yacht... He loved the sea! Well my friend, thank you for sharing the story... Keep'em coming. Hope to hear more when we met as a group in PS in October.
Have a GREAT day!!!

When she drowned at the Isthmus on Catalina Island--several of my friends were involved in her retrieval from the cold waters of the harbor...very sad--Red Allante
