Back in the 1950's my Dad was a realtor--with his office immediately outside the Malibu Colony--about 3/4 mile up from the Malibu Pier. Dad was showing me through a fancy home in the Colony when I found a surfboard in a secret room downstairs,,the home owner said I could keep it. Needless to say I was thrilled and began surfing every weekend and sometimes during school time. Along the way I met Kathy Kohner--the real-life GIDGET for whom the movies and TV episodes were name after.

At USC, I would show up with a wet bathing suit under my levi's and salt all over me...but alas..I had my car taken away by Dad, so that I would concentrate on school and Baseball. I seldom surfed after graduation--grad school, ARMY and then a real job and marriage ...but bought a boat and several more...mostly sport fishers and maintained my love of the ocean. Recently I went body surfing by the San Clemente Pier--it was wonderful...I love Palm Springs but the Beach is still the place! Red Allante
